Planting the Seeds of Smart Saving: FMB Visits First Grade Classrooms
Impact
Apr. 24, 2025

During the week of April 21st, volunteers from Farmers & Merchants Bank had the pleasure of visiting six first-grade classrooms as part of the national “Teach Kids to Save” initiative. This program is designed to help young students build strong saving habits early on through banker-led outreach.
FMB volunteers read Rock, Brock, and the Savings Shock to each class, which sparked great conversations about the value of money and how even small choices today can lead to big rewards down the road.
Each student received a copy of the book to take home, along with fun, interactive savings sheets. These included activities like “My Savings Goal,” where kids could draw what they are saving for and estimate how much it might cost, plus worksheets on matching amounts to coins and sorting “Needs vs. Wants.”
We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with local schools and help students take their first steps toward financial literacy and would like to extend a big thank you to the wonderful educators who welcomed us into their classrooms. Supporting our community’s future starts with investing in kids today, and FMB is proud to be a part of it.
